Ensuring Compliance with International Humanitarian Law by All Parties

In Khan Yunis, the Al-Amal Hospital and the Palestine Red Crescent (PRCS) have ceased all operations, transforming a once sanctuary into a battleground. This shift jeopardizes the lives of critical patients, injured civilians, medical staff, and PRCS teams.

Displaced individuals, PRCS personnel, and hundreds of critically injured civilians have been compelled to evacuate. With the closures of both Al-Quads and Al-Amal hospitals, vital healthcare services provided by PRCS in the Gaza Strip have been rendered non-functional. As a result, the healthcare infrastructure in both the northern and southern Gaza Strip is teetering on the edge of collapse.

The closure of Al-Amal Hospital, driven by fuel shortages, lack of medicines and medical equipment, and unsafe access routes, imperils countless lives.
Under International Humanitarian Law, the Red Crescent emblem and Al-Amal Hospital are entitled to protection. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the National Society urge all parties involved to uphold their obligations under International Humanitarian Law, ensuring the protection of healthcare workers, facilities, and civilians.

In the throes of conflict, access to healthcare transcends mere necessity—it becomes a matter of life and death. The people of Gaza have endured unfathomable suffering, with healthcare serving as one of their last bastions of hope.
